Celebrating Classified Staff

The third week of May is Classified School Employee Week at Merced City School District.
To celebrate, Board of Education Member Dr. Shane Smith, Superintendent Dr. Al Rogers, Associate Superintendent Doug Collins, and Assistant Superintendent Brian Meisenheimer delivered doughnuts to Classified Staff at all 19 schools and support facilities in MCSD on May 21.

“We’re going around doing the universal expression of appreciation for folks,” Dr. Smith stated.
“We’re giving out doughnuts to our Classified Staff members and educators who work so hard to make this District move. Without them we couldn't educate anybody.”

Each member of the Classified Staff plays a vital role in the student educational experience.

“Everything that we do that supports a great lesson for each child really depends on our classified employees,” Superintendent Dr. Al Rogers added. “Everything from cleaning the facilities, making sure that they work, that they’re safe, ensuring that children have good food to eat, that all of the supplies and materials are available to them and their teachers. All of that really depends on our classified employees.”

Signs are also posted at the entrance to each school and support facility which read: “MCSD loves our Classified Staff.”

The MCSD Board of Education passed a resolution, declaring May 17-23, 2020, as Classified School Employee Week in MCSD. The resolution honors and draws attention to the many efficient, hardworking, and dedicated classified employees in MCSD who give of themselves every day for young people and to help the District run more smoothly.

Classified Staff Appreciation Week

Burbank ElementaryChenoweth

May 18-22 is Classified Staff Appreciation Week. Each member of the Classified Staff plays a vital role in our students’ educational experience. They drive our students to and from school, prepare their nutritious breakfasts and lunches, maintain our facilities, fleet, provide top tier technology and support, keep us stocked up on supplies, manage offices, and handle finances. Classified Staff are essential to student success.

2020 Graduation Will Look Different

Class of 2019

This year the Merced City School District is proud to graduate more than 1,200 8th graders to high school. Based on current state mandated shelter-in-place requirements, traditional in-person graduation ceremonies will not be possible. In order for social distancing to occur, this year’s commencement will be unique. MCSD plans to provide a virtual video tribute that will honor our graduates. Here are just a few of the accomplishments by the class of 2020:

  • Cruickshank Middle School had two students qualify to represent Merced County in the State Spelling Bee and the top scorer in the county’s Academic Pentathlon.
  • Hoover Middle School students won top awards at the County STEM Fair, including the 1st place overall student, with several students qualifying to go on to State.
  • Rivera Middle School 8th graders were instrumental in helping win in their division at the Central California Band Review and the Central Valley Guard and Percussion Circuit.
  • Tenaya Middle School celebrated its 60th anniversary with the 8th grade team qualifying for the State Science Fair and the Advanced Band winning several awards

More information on the virtual tribute and diploma distribution will be coming soon.
