The Merced City School District is reaching out to families to provide new information about applications and testing for the Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) program. The outreach will include phone calls and letters to those with students in 1st-7th grades. Congratulations to the winners of the MCSD spelling bees! Each grade level competed at Tenaya Middle School from November 6-9. They battled for hours, spelling words such as apocryphal, chiaroscuro, and somnolent. The top three finishers received trophies, and the two two from each grade at each school will go on to the county spelling bees hosted by the Merced County Office of Education in December. The Merced City School District recently completed a voluntary process to have the water at all 18 of our schools tested for lead as an extra precaution to ensure the safety of students and staff. We are pleased to share that each and every sample was well below the maximum contamination limit (MCL) of 15 parts per billion. While officials had no previous concerns about the water, this was done as a proactive step because of a new statewide initiative that allows K-12 schools in California to receive lead testing at no cost to the district.
